My favourite dances from Strictly Come Dancing

One of the things on my bucket list is to learn how to ballroom dance. It’s only been a fairly recent thing, well, I say recent, but I’ve been obsessed with Strictly Come Dancing since the first series I watched back in 2010. In 2013 I was actually lucky enough to get tickets to go and watch it being recorded at Elstree Studios. We had amazing seats – I was sat four rows back from the front, in the aisle seat, practically sitting next to Bruno.

I’m sat down, in between Bruno & Claudia.

During the group pro dances, at one point I had all of the male professionals lined up next to me. That was a very pleasant moment. I got a hug from Anton, and at one point Aljaž was stood so close to me I could have reached out and squeezed his peach. In hindsight, I don’t know why I didn’t.

Anyway, here is a countdown of my 10 favourite dances from Strictly. I’ve only been watching since 2010, so I haven’t included any routines before that.

10. Jake Wood & Janette Manrara’s Salsa

One thing I love about this, is that it was fairly early on in the competition (week 1 or 2?), and a lot of the male celebrities often give less than 100% in the latin numbers, for fear of looking silly. I love that Jake doesn’t seem to care about looking stupid in this salsa, he comes out and gives it beans which is such a refreshing change to a lot of the other latin dances.

9. Kara Tointon & Artem Chigvintsev’s American Smooth

Can’t beat a bit of Michael Bublé!

8. Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Brendan Cole’s Charleston

This dance was probably dubbed as the dance of the season. I love the classic Charleston styling, but that it’s more stylish and cool than the usual wacky Charleston you’d usually see. I can’t believe this was only week 2!

7. Harry Judd & Aliona Vilani’s Quickstep

Can I just say, I said Harry would win from day one, okay? This song by The Pretenders is such a good song choice for the quickstep, and this routine is awesome.

6. Anita Rani & Gleb Savchenko’s Paso Doble

5. Claudia Fragapane & AJ Pritchard’s Charleston

Love this! Love the song, the routine, the costumes, and the fact that she pies him in the face at the end! This is the good thing about having gymnasts on the show, they can keep up with the pace and do awesome lifts!

4. Georgia May Foote & Giovanni Pernice’s Charleston

This will go down as one of the best Charlestons in Strictly history. I love that it’s from Chicago, it’s one of my favourite songs from the musical.

3. Anita Rani & Gleb Savchenko’s Argentine Tango

Again, from Chicago.

I mean, he’s dressed up as a prison guard. He has handcuffs and a baton. I’m done.

2. Simon Webbe & Kristina Rhianoff’s Argentine Tango

I get shivers every time I watch this! Simon wasn’t one of my favourites of that series, but this Argentine Tango was amazing. I absolutely adore the Moulin Rouge version of that song, too.

  1. Jay McGuinness & Aliona Vilani’s Jive

Holy mother of God! This is probably the only dance I’ve watched countless amounts of times since it happened, and it’s still just as good as the first time I saw it. I literally started screaming, it was that good. This dance scored three 9’s and a 10, and it was only week three! In case you haven’t guessed, it was during movie week and their movie was Pulp Fiction. I think part of why I love it so much was just how cool and collected it was, which fits the character perfectly.

I’m just gonna go and swoon over Gleb now…
