10 Places on My Travel Bucket List

They say that travel is the only thing you can buy which makes you richer. I love visiting new and exciting cities and counties, not just to get away from daily life, but to soak up other cultures and broaden my horizons. I’m not one of those who could just go somewhere and stay at the hotel or resort the entire time, I love to explore as much as I possibly can, and go as far as I possibly can.

So today I’m rounding up 10 places which are on my travel bucket list. There are plenty more than the ones I mention, but I’d say that these are the places which take priority over others.

“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list”.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini has been on my bucket list for quite a while now. It’s known for the white & blue cliffside houses and has been said to have some of the most beautiful sunsets on Earth. It got it’s famous rugged landscape as a result of a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC. I spend my days dreaming about sunbathing in Santorini next to a pool overlooking the stunning Mediterranean sea, with a cocktail in my hand. One day…

Sardinia, Italy

I love that Sardinia seems to have the best of both worlds. It’s an Italian island, so it has the amazing Italian culture and food, but it looks like it’s in the middle of the Caribbean with it’s amazing beaches and turquoise water. It’d be great to visit if you don’t want the noise and stress of the mainland. It’s the second largest island in the Mediterranean (after Sicily and before Cyprus), and is divided into four provinces and a metropolitan city. Sardinia has plenty of ancient remains to sink your teeth into, but probably the thing I’d like to see most is the giants’ tombs and faerie houses scattered across the island.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Amalfi Coast strikes me as a more colourful Santorini, in a way. The Amalfi coast is a 50km strech of coastline in Italy’s Sorrento region, dotted with colourful villages including Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi itself. One of the things on my bucket list is to drive along the Amalfi Coast’s coastal road, and get the ferry over to the gorgeous island of Capri.

Northern Lights

Aurora Borealis Nature

From what I’ve read, the best places to see the aurora borealis are Iceland and Norway. Many places offer Northern Lights breaks and excursions, and although they are never guaranteed to appear, there are more preferential places and times of year to increase your chances of seeing this spectacular natural light show.

Hawaii, USA

Even though Hawaii is part of the USA, it’s right in the middle of the Pacific ocean, and it’s actually the most geographically isolated place on Earth. That may or may not be related to the reason why I like it so much! Hawaii is made up of 6 islands, and you can find pretty much anything here, from waterfalls, lush forests, cliffs, volcanoes, beaches, and much more. Hawaii is known as one of the best honeymoon destinations on the planet, many newlyweds heading there for it’s romance and activities.

The Maldives

This may well be the number one destination on my travel bucket list. The Maldives is  located atop the Chagos-Maldives-Laccadive Ridge, a vast submarine mountain range in the Indian Ocean. It’s made up of tiny coral islands, turquoise water and reefs, and beautiful beaches. The best way to visit the Maldives is to stay in a water-bungalow with a glass floor, and it’s own pool. There are other places you can do this (Bahamas, Bora Bora, etc), and the Maldives is known to be very expensive, but part of what draws me to it is that it won’t be around forever due to rising sea levels. Can I go now please?!

New York, USA

Do I really need to explain why I want to visit New York? First off, I can visit all the places you see in Gossip Girl and pretend I’m Blair Waldorf, and then you have all the amazing sights New York has to offer, like the empire state building, times square, central park, statue of liberty, etc. The list is endless. Oh, and I also want to summer in the Hamptons.

Banff National Park, Canada

Banff is Canada’s oldest national park, located in the Rocky Mountains. It’s well known for one of the most visited lakes in the world, Lake Louise (top left). Now, I’m not a massive fan of hiking, which, is a lot of what Banff has to offer, but I’d be happy having a spa treatment at Chateau Lake Louise.

Los Angeles, California

There are a lot of places in California I’d like to see, but the one place I’d want to see most is probably LA, and Beverly Hills to cry over all the beautiful houses. I’d go shopping on Rodeo Drive, drive along sunset boulevard,  and sunbathe on Venice Beach. Yeah, that’s definitely going to happen…

Spain Ibiza Mediterranean Sea Ocean BeachFormentera Spain Ibiza

Looking at these pictures, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was in the Caribbean, or the Maldives, or somewhere similar, right? This stunning island is actually in the mediterranean sea, right next to Ibiza. It’s often used as just a day trip via ferry from the party island, but in my opinion I’d rather stay here! It’s known for it’s clear water and long stretches of beaches, and offers a lot of water sports. It’s a great alternative to the likes of the Bahamas, but being just a 2 hour plane journey away!

What’s at the top of your list?
