Current Beauty Favourites

Hello loves!

I’m afraid this is going to be another “sorry I’m so shit at blogging” posts! My laptop has been down for a few months and I haven’t had the patience to write lengthy posts from my iPad or phone. Small rant: one my day my laptop just decided to die, so I took it to the genius bar at my nearest Apple Store and they ran diagnostics and told me that it was the hard drive that’d packed up and left. If I wanted to replace it with them, it would have been around £300! I decided against it and had every intention of claiming on my contents insurance for it, but just never got round to it. When I mentioned this to my dad a week or so ago, he said he’d have a go at fixing it (bearing in mind he usually deals with Windows computers), and it turned out that the hard drive was absolutely fine, and it was the cable that connected the hard drive to the motherboard that was faulty. So we ordered a new one, and now I’m back up and running!

Anyway, I really wasn’t sure how to dip my toe back into the blogging pool, so I thought I’d do a good old favourites post about my favourite products of this year so far!

Charlotte Tilbury lipstick

I recently bought my very first Charlotte Tilbury lipstick! After a disaster with a makeup artist I’d booked for my wedding, I was then able to buy a few new products to use on my wedding day. I’d really wanted a CT lipstick for a while, as I’ve heard so many good things about them, and I mean, they’re gorgeous right!? After trying quite a few, I settled on the shade ‘Kim K W’, which is a gorgeous nude shade in the Hot Lips range. (And I’m not gonna lie, it does make me feel like a Kardashian). I also tried Pillow Talk and Super Cindy and, unpopular opinion: I wasn’t really feeling Pillow Talk. I’ve seen a lot of people raving about it, but I honestly preferred Super Cindy. Although saying that, Pillow Talk was more matte than Super Cindy, I wasn’t looking for a matte shade for my wedding day, so it wasn’t what I was looking for at the time. I did buy the Pillow Talk liner though, which is lovely underneath Kim K W. Needless to say, the packaging is to die for, and they feel quite hefty as well, like you know they’re not going to get damaged in your bag at all. The lipsticks cost £24 so they are on the pricey side compared to other brands like MAC, but, the CT lipsticks do seem like the most luxurious product you could buy, in my opinion. Plus, they look great in flatlays.

Another thing I want to mention here about Charlotte Tilbury, is that although there doesn’t seem to be many stockists in the country (my nearest one is about an hour away), when I did go, the girls on the CT counter were probably the most helpful and lovely I’ve ever experienced. When I told them I was looking for a lipstick for my wedding they really stepped up and couldn’t do enough to help me and make sure I was happy with the one I chose, and I didn’t feel like they were just trying to make a sale.

Pineapple Malibu

Pineapple Malibu Rum Drink Alcohol CocktailDrink Cocktail Flatlay Book Lipstick Makeup

If you take me for a drink, you can pretty much bet I’ll order one of two things: a fruity cocktail, or a malibu&coke. Can you imagine how excited I was when I tried this? My mum bought it for me for my birthday by accident (she meant to buy the normal one), but I had been wanting to try it anyway, and I am so glad she did! I can’t even begin to tell you how delicious it is. It’s one of those drinks where you can’t taste the alcohol at all, it just tastes like pineapple. It’s perfect for summer, and you can make so many different cocktails out of it, or just put it with OJ or lemonade. My favourite combo is using this with orange & mango juice & grenadine, with a few chunks of mango & pineapple thrown in for added punch. You need to try this!

Skinny Tan Express Mousse

Skinny Tan Self Tanning Beauty Body Fake Tan

I’ve only tried a couple of different tans in my day, and in all honesty I don’t think I need to look any further. There are a few things I love about Skinny Tan, first, I love the fact that with the express mousse, you don’t have to sit in it smelling like biscuits and being sticky for hours on end. I also love that you can dictate how dark you want your tan to be. If you’re looking for a light tan, then you only need to leave it on for an hour, but, if you want a darker tan, you can leave it on for three hours. It doesn’t smell, and also when you’re applying the tan you can see the bits you’ve already done, so you can make sure you won’t miss anywhere. Once it’s developed it looks so natural, and it lasts for a good while, too. It’s expensive, but it’s so worth it. I’ll definitely be repurchasing. They have quite a few different products as well as the express mousse that I’d love to try, I’ve particularly got my eye on the tan primer. I didn’t get any pics to show how well it tanned on me, but I’ll most likely do another review post about it soon.

“Pretty Honest” by Sali Hughes

Book Makeup Skincare Haircare Sali Hughes

I’ve read quite a few books recently claiming to be the next big thing on beauty tips and advice. I’m definitely not some sort of beauty guru/buddha type, but I’m not an amateur either, and I’ve found that a lot of beauty books contains things I already know, and I find that they don’t really teach me anything new. I can’t tell you how many books I’ve read that all tell you that putting white liner/shadow in your inner eye will make your eyes look bigger. I bought Pretty Honest mainly so that I’d have something to read by the pool on holiday, but it was so good that I finished it in two days. No matter what your skill level with skincare or makeup, it will have something for you. There are aspects of the book where she delves into the more scientific side of skincare and beauty products, and I found myself having to reread parts of it to get my head around it! I won’t spoil it for you, but some of the topics she discusses are basic skincare/beauty techniques, foundation/lipstick/brows/hair/etc, salon etiquette, how to look good in pictures, botox, teenage/mature/anti-aging beauty, beauty and the careerwoman/mother/illness, how to pay and receive compliments, colour rules, bridal beauty, beauty icons, and many more. It cost me £16.99 from Waterstones, and it’s quite hefty too, I’ll definitely be rereading the whole thing and it will from now on be known as my bible.

Palmolive Gourmet Chocolate Passion Shower Cream

Palmolive Chocolate Shower Bath Body Scent

Oh holy balls this smells INCREDIBLE! I kid you not, it smells more like chocolate than actual chocolate does. And it was only £1 in Morrisons – bargain or what!? They also have a strawberry, and mint version too, which I will definitely be trying. (I used it up really quickly so I don’t have a picture).

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Brow Wiz

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Eyebrow Pencil Brown

Before I bought anything from Anastasia Beverly Hills, I’d heard so much about them it’s unreal – every blogger seemed to be raving about them and every other picture I saw on Instagram seemed to feature at least one of their products. So, when I was able to buy a few new products for my bridal makeup, this was definitely one of my choices. The two most popular brow products they offer are Brow Wiz, and Dip Brow. Brow Wiz is an ultra thin pencil which mimics the brow hairs, and is probably more for the beginner/intermediate skill, and Dip Brow is a matte pomade to be applied with an angled brow brush, which, I’ve read, is better if you’re quite good at doing your brows. I’d put myself at the intermediate level here, so I opted to go for Brow Wiz and I’m so glad I did. It’s so simple to use and looks so natural, the shade I bought (guessed) is exactly the same colour as my brows, also it’s simple to pop in your bag and use on the go if need be (although to be honest it stays put all day so you won’t need to reapply unless you are staying away from home). Brow Wiz costs £15.50, which I think is actually really reasonable, so I’m super happy with this, and will definitely be repurchasing.

So there we have it! Let me know if you’ve tried any of the products I’ve mentioned!
