I’ve heard so many good things about liquid lipsticks – NYX in particular. I have to admit that before now I’d never really delved into liquid lipsticks that much, I would always lean more towards the more traditional style of lipstick because that’s all I knew.
One problem I’ve always had with lipsticks is longevity. Whenever I wear lipstick it always seems to have come off after a few hours wear or after a meal, even when I wear it with liner and take time and care to apply it properly. Obviously I know you can’t expect for a lipstick to last all day and not budge at all, but it would be nice to be able to find one that lasts more than a few hours.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks from NYX. They’re only £7 each so I had a look at my local NYX counter to see what they were like and maybe choose a few shades I wanted to try. Unfortunately, the majority of the testers weren’t actually there, so without being able to look at them and test them properly it made it very hard to decide which ones I wanted. Also, when they’re in the tubes a lot of the shades look very similar to each other, and when you swatch them on your hand they seem very different to what they look like in the tube (and again on your lips). Most of the collection are more nude-based, and as nudes can be quite hit-or-miss for me, I wasn’t sure which ones would suit me without doing a bit of research. I managed to find some swatches online and I selected a few shades that I wanted to try. Fortunately, a short while after that I actually won one in a Twitter giveaway, and I also received a few more for Christmas last year.
I’m actually very impressed with these, I have to say! I’ve heard that a lot of liquid lipsticks can feel really drying, but the NYX ones don’t feel like that at all. Sometimes it actually doesn’t feel like I have anything on my lips at all. And they seem to stay on for ages! I actually had to scrub my lips to get the colour off in-between taking photos. You do get some of it coming off slightly towards the inside of your lips after you’ve eaten, but that could just be me being a sloppy eater so I personally would definitely need to reapply a little bit after meals, but it’s such a huge improvement compared to normal lipsticks. Also where the colours are so pigmented it means I can actually draw myself a top lip with it. One thing I will say though is that sometimes the formula can be a little bit ‘bitty’ (if you check the arm swatches above you’ll see what I mean), so sometimes it can take a while to smooth all that out – they’re definitely not lipsticks you can just shove on when you’re in a rush.
I’ll definitely be looking to get more of these in the future, but I’d love it if they’d go for some more red-based colours!
