I’ve heard so many good things about liquid lipsticks – NYX in particular. I have to admit that before now I’d never really delved into liquid lipsticks that much. I always tend lean more towards the more traditional style of lipstick because that’s all I’ve known.
One problem I’ve always had with lipsticks is longevity. Whenever I wear lipstick it always seems to have come off after a few hours wear or after a meal. Even when I wear it with liner and take time and care to apply it properly. Obviously you can’t expect a lipstick to last all day and not budge at all, but it would be nice to find one that lasts more than a few hours.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks from NYX. They’re only £7 each so I went to my local NYX counter to choose a few shades I liked. Unfortunately, the majority of the testers weren’t actually there. So without being able to look at them and test them properly it made it difficult to decide which ones I wanted. Also, when they’re in the tubes a lot of the shades look very similar to each other. Then when you swatch them on your hand they seem different to what they look like in the tube (and again on your lips).
Most of the collection are more nude-based. I find nudes can be quite hit-or-miss on me. I wasn’t sure which ones would suit me without doing some research so I managed to find some swatches online and I selected a few shades that I wanted to try. Fortunately, a short while after that I actually won one in a Twitter giveaway, and I also received a few more for Christmas.
I have to say, these lipsticks really impressed me! I’ve heard that a lot of liquid lipsticks can feel quite drying, but these don’t feel like that at all. Sometimes it actually doesn’t feel like I have anything on my lips at all. And they seem to stay on for ages! I actually had to scrub my lips to get the colour off in-between taking photos. I do get some of it coming off slightly towards the inside of my lips after I’ve eaten though. But that could just be me being a sloppy eater so I would definitely need to reapply after meals.
Even so, it’s such a huge improvement compared to normal lipsticks. Also where the colours are so pigmented it means I can actually draw myself a top lip with it. One thing I will say though is that sometimes the formula can be a little bit ‘bitty’. (If you check the arm swatches above you’ll see what I mean). So sometimes it can take a while to smooth all that out. They’re definitely not lipsticks you can just shove on when you’re in a rush.
I’ll definitely be looking to get more of these in the future, but I’d love it if they’d go for some more red-based colours!
